Humm are a contemporary folk duo based in Bath, UK. These live performances of their songs Made for Holding and Tamlin and Joan were filmed in November 2025 at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Newton St Loe, in collaboration with Soundsprout Films.
My role on this project was Location Audio Engineer, as well as Mixing and Mastering Engineer during post-production. The church was an amazing acoustic space and choosing to capture its natural reverb with a pair of condenser microphones perfectly suited the vibe of Humm's music, and elevated the emotion of their performance.
Recording live audio alongside a video shoot required a unique approach, particularly when it came to microphone placement. The goal was to capture a high-quality recoding without cluttering up the frame and distracting away from the artists performance. Using contact microphones on the violin and acoustic guitar and blending them with the ambient mics placed around the church, gave me good control over the final mix.
