Jack Busby
I’m Jack. A freelance record producer, engineer, and musician based in Somerset, UK.
Having learned the techniques and craft of recording while studying Commercial Music at Bath Spa University, I have accumulated many hours working in professional-level studio facilities. Through this, I have become skilled in using a vast range of equipment, Logic Pro and Pro Tools, and I am comfortable in both digital and analogue workflows.
Now graduated, I am launching my freelance mixing, engineering, and producing career, offering a unique and collaborative experience for each project. I can accommodate whatever your project needs, whether you want a full-on producer or simply an engineer to set up microphones and hit record. No matter the role, my priority is always to capture your songs in a way that suits your sound and stays authentic to your creative vision.
I have worked with various grassroots projects within the Bristol and Bath area, thriving particularly in the rock, alternative, and metal scenes. However, I have experience and credits with many different genres.
I play guitar and I'm also the drummer of Bristol-based bands Spiderhoney and Greensmith. I have also formed and played in several other bands in the past, so I definitely understand the artist’s perspective, band dynamics, and the process of songwriting and creating a record.
What I Offer
Mixing
Taking all the elements of your recording, I can balance and refine them to bring your song to life. I work primarily ‘in the box’, editing in ProTools and mixing in Logic Pro using an array of digital plug-ins. While I would describe my mixing style as energetic, rich, and, when suitable, ‘pumping’, each mix is unique and tailored specifically to the vibe of the song. I also have experience in the ‘mystical’ art of mastering and can add the final 10% your track needs to make it ready for release.
Recording
I am comfortable stepping into any studio environment, but I will record your song in whatever environment suits you best. I also have facilities in my own workspace to record guitars and bass (with simulated speaker IRs) and vocals, and I am skilled in drum programming, demo creation, and pre-production.
Producing and Songwriting
Sometimes having an extra person in the studio can really help with decision making and finding the direction you want to take your project. I will help shape your sound in the studio, using my outside perspective to provide constructive input throughout the recording process
